The River Mill
Blog and stories
Nestled between cosy bars by the river side, The River Mill wedding venue quaintly resides by her big sister, The West Mill an arm stretch away.
I love this venue for it’s outdoor area, right by the river. (I swear Derby doesn’t take enough advantage of it’s river side. That’s coming from a Ex-Derby university student!)
This place was a strong contender for my own wedding. All in one room, cosy atmosphere. Charming high ceilings, plenty of space to breathe. We love it here.
Our luxury vintage photobooths suit this venue so well because like the River Mill, we’re crafted from real vintage pieces. Our booths will stand out whilst also perfectly fitting in.
FAQS: Where do you usually set up?
Infront of the main entrance doors - the advantage of there is that it’s within the moving flow of the space.
By the back door near the dance floor - the advantage here is that guests can dip in and out of the booth without going too far from the party.
FAQS: WHAT TIME TO RUN IS BEST?
I think when evening guests arrive is a good time, or after the cake is cut.
Real Wedding Stories
Jacqueline & Francis
The River Mill | 2026
3rd July 2026
OH! Photobooth’s relationship with Jacqueline goes back to 2018 when she hired us for her first event and since then through work, or recommended us to friends she’s seen us hired six times. I’m both mind blown and incredibly honoured.
Let me tell you a bit about the glorious vibes as I walked into The River Mill that evening. The band was setting up at the top of the room and most of the guests were mingling out the front by the river. Music fed through the room, the sun was glowing through the ceiling windows and the smell of yummy dinner lingered in the air. I was greeted by Jacqueline in her stunning boho style wedding dress, it really felt like seeing an old friend on their wedding day!
As arranged the macrame feature was ready against the wall for me to use as my photo booth backdrop. By using the same feature again for the photos as they did for the wedding ceremony, not only were they getting their moneys worth from the styling but also immortalising more details from the day.
I’m so sentimental about everything so this was a lovely touch.
The photos ended up coming out with a heavy boho vibe, luxurious and better than just using the plain wall. Not to mention the botanical feature above the guests head - I’ve ran out of creative ways to describe how cool it all looked. It just looked dead cool.
I was made to feel so so welcome by Jacqueline and Francis, it really was like meeting old friends and my heart felt full leaving the party. I always like feeling like the booth was a huge hit and this time it just met all my expectations. The quality of the photographs, how well I was received by guests, the print design, the QR code downloads and even keyrings went down brilliantly!
My favourite moment from the night was when I was helping to pose Jacqueline and her two booth compadres and she went ‘I love it when she does this.’ I felt so seen, that’s what I love to do. If I see a quick hesitation on guests faces on what to actually do for their next photo I love to throw in a suggestion. Back to back? Charlies Angels?? Victorian Family photo??? There’s UFO in the corner of the room????
I sent their online gallery with all of their digital pictures the day after and from their honeymoon I recieved a lovely email saying they loved the booth and ‘Francis said “as ever, an absolute star” and we both thank you for the keyrings that have come on our honeymoon with us’ just the cherry on top!
It was a brilliant three hour run and I really do hope to see Jacqueline and Francis again for another photo booth party.
